WW man charged with rape of teen
Jeffrey A. Bruton is charged in connection with a pair of incidents.

WALLA WALLA -- A man suspected of raping a 16-year-old girl has been charged in Walla Walla County Superior Court.

Jeffrey A. Bruton, 34, is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion with the girl on two occasions in Walla Walla County between March 1 and Aug. 27.

The charges against Bruton include two counts of second-degree rape. The charges were filed Monday and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He appeared at Superior Court Wednesday with his attorney, William McCool, who argued Bruton should be released on his own recognizance pending further court proceedings.

Judge Robert Zagelow initially had set bail on the warrant at $250,000, but reduced it to $50,000 at the afternoon hearing. Bruton then was taken to the County Jail, but was released about two hours later after bond was posted.

He is to live at 1600 Gray Lynn Drive.

" Indeed there is so much more to this story... What a shame that our system is failing this child. It's an outrage! She deserves the right to be safe from not only sexual abuse but verbal and emotional abuse as well. This is not a rebelious lying teenager but a young girl that definitely needs our prayers! Thank you to those of you who are lifting her up right now. Please don't stop! "

" The real issue is the child! The adults can take care of themselves. again... pray for this child that they receive the protection and care they deserve. "

" Let's remember the real issue and quit blaming all the family members. Where do you get off bad mouthing people that have nothing to do with what happened? What was your point? Do you really think any of them wanted this? Isn't there family going through enough right now where they shouldn't have to deal with jerks like you make things worst. Like I said why don't the few of you who keep talking crap remember the real issue. "

" just one more not before I sign off... Thank you wwubreads for sharing what is a very sensitive issue. It takes courage to talk about such horrible things, your story and many others helps each and every child of our future, so we may watch out for our young. Bless you for sharing, you are one of the brave... take care and continue to share your story, so that others may learn! "

" I'm not able to get out much myself, living alone, I spend my time researching, reading, and listing to my scanner. This town has grown so very much in the last 50 years, it's a shame that we still seem to protect the adults, I sure hope this young child gets adequate representation, and protection from the public ridicule, especially with their social standing... I fear that money may protect the guilty and shame the innocent... I pray for this child. Been around for many years, afraid not much has changed, people still doing the same horrific things to children ... again pray for this child as the damage is done... "

" There seems to be some issues with the reporting by the UB, I'm astounded at the number of persons that don't seem to understand the difference between "accused" and "charged" - for a person to be charged there has to be facts brought before the judge, as well a noticeable bail amount was set, therefore one can ascertain that there is in fact just cause for Jeffery Aaron Bruton to be charged in this case. Oh... and if this person didn't commit said crime, then why was there a warrant for his arrest? why did he not just go in and talk to the police?? they had to go searching for him. Did any not notice the reports over the police scanners where he was missing last seen with a gun in his front seat??? I know I heard it from my scanner.... hmmm pay attention folks -- all information the UB has published is public information available at the court house. As well as the sheriff's office... "

" Wwwubreads- I think you are judging someone you don't know. Where in this article does it speak of the mother? Why don't you go back and reread the article and then make your opinion. "

" People, "DO NOT" believe every thing you hear as gosple! There is a lot to this story that is not made public!
If every thing is true that is said to be, there is a lot of tough times ahead for this family. "

" The previous comment was not made by someone involved in the case directly or indirectly. The comment was made by a person who was sexually abused as a child and whom did not have the support of their mother. Therefore, justice was never served. The predator in my case thought that maintaining his innocense his entire life and then confessing his sins on his death bed(literally the day before he died) not just of me but of many others - would exonorate him from his fiery eternity. I do not believe that will be the case. "

" the union bulletin has ingored its own guidlines by allowing the previous comments to be posted. inuendo, liable, attacks, incite violence...consider the last few words of the comment posted and tell me that it "fits" the guidlines set by the Union Bulletin. This is a society of innocent until proven guilty. There are always two sides to every story and this sensationalized "story" certainly must have more untold facts. Let the justice sytem and the court process bring out the truth, the whole truth and all the facts. Premature attacks and prejudice shows a lack of respect for due process. In fact it shows the the author of the previous comment may be directly involved in this matter and should not be allowed to use this format for a personal vendeta. We all agree this is a serious matter and that the 16 year old should have the protection of her family, especially her mother. "

Kilper wrote on Sep 11, 2008 8:51 PM:

" You made it obvious about being involved in this case..using cheap tactics rather than letting justice be served....This is not the forum for biased blather. "

wwubreads wrote on Sep 11, 2008 6:52 PM:

" This is so sad. Even more sad are other issues I've heard on this subject. As a fellow sexual assault victim, I will forever support the child first, regardless of the embarassment to the family. Hopefully, the child's mother will do the same. If we don't support our kids, who is supposed to? The child should always come first and the rapist will burn, regardless of remorse (faked or otherwise). Raping an innocent child is something that you can't even ask forgiveness for on your death bed. I believe that with all my heart. "

RJC wrote on Sep 11, 2008 4:40 PM:

" Here we go again!!!!
Let see if the postings will be the same for the other recent offenders (accused! I dont think so. Only for PD Officers. Although, they did print his address. "
