Imagine trotting through quaint regal streets in a horse and buggy, traveling to a prominent Victorian home on a beautiful crisp fall afternoon. This is Dayton, Washington, nestled at the base of the beautiful Blue Mountains in the southeastern corner of the state. Upon your visit you are transported back in time, strolling the well maintained streets, visiting the first train depot and the oldest continuously used courthouse in the state. Dayton, WA, boasts over 100 buildings and homes registered on local, state, and national registries of historic places. Six historic homes, the oldest train depot and a Union Pacific caboose will be on this year’s Historic Home Tour. On Saturday, October 6th you will have the opportunity to tour these buildings and learn about the rich history this community holds with Dayton on Tour.
The Dayton Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Dayton Historical Depot Society and the local arts community to bring you a free, family-friendly festival outdoors on the corner of Main and First from 11am – 3 pm with multiple fall-themed activities for the whole family. Horse-and-carriage rides by the Prescott Fenley family can be purchased and are the most fun you can have at 2mph. The local Kiwanis will also be grilling and selling sausages.
Local artists and artisans will be demonstrating their craft and talents in the beautiful Dayton Depot courtyard from 1-4pm. In addition, multiple downtown venues will be displaying the works of local artists. Pick up maps for this free “Art Crawl” at any of the participating venues: Dayton Depot, Wenaha Gallery, Gallery at the Weinhard Hotel, Weinhard Café, the Liberty Theater, Mace Mead Works or Grain House Grill. An artist’s reception with hors d’oeuvres will be held for adults in the upstairs gallery of the Dayton Depot.
