Have you ever heard of Camp Columbia north of Walla Walla? Or Camp Ginkgo where CCC boys made trail and built Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park? A camp at Lewiston? All these places are living examples of work by young men enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Janet Oakley, local historian and writer, has published a novel entitled Tree Soldier: A Novel of Love, Forgiveness, and the Great Depression. She will give a talk on the research behind the story and read from her novel. Books will available for sale.
