WALLA WALLA -- Proposed service changes and fare increases will be the topic of public hearings by Valley Transit Wednesday.
The hearings will be at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Valley Transit main office, 1401 W. Rose St. A third public hearing has also be scheduled for 7 p.m. on Aug. 18 at the same location.
The changes are being proposed because of a shortfall in sales tax revenue, the agency said. People who unable to attend the hearings can submit comments by e-mail or by regular mail. The deadline for comments is Aug. 18.
One resident, Freda Tepfer, said she is concerned that cutbacks in service will adversely affect many people who choose not to drive or rely on bus service because they cannot drive or don't own a car. The latter group includes students, people with disabilities and elderly residents. TRANSIT COMMENTS
