WALLA WALLA -- A man charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, which officials believe started a fire that killed three women last February, has been returned to Walla Walla County to face the charge.
Jared F. Allen -- who was arrested last month in Umatilla County -- was transferred Thursday to the Walla Walla County Jail.
At his first appearance this morning in Walla Walla County Superior Court, Allen was advised of his rights, local attorney Jim Barrett was appointed to represent him, and bail was set at $100,000.
He will be arraigned at a later hearing.
Allen, 41, was arrested near Weston July 25 on the Walla Walla County warrant and unrelated charges.
The meth charge accuses Allen of cooking the controlled substance in an RV on Woodlawn Street the evening of Feb. 25. Officials said a chemical fire flashed during the process, killing three people -- including his daughter -- inside the vehicle.
