PENDLETON -- A Milton-Freewater man suspected of viewing and encouraging children to have sex at a home-operated day care faces a 13-count criminal indictment.

A Umatilla County Grand Jury handed up the indictment against Jerry D. Simpson, 66, on Thursday, according to District Attorney Dean Gushwa.

The charges include three counts each of first-degree sexual abuse, using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, second-degree encouraging child sexual abuse and third-degree encouraging child sexual abuse, and one count of luring a minor.

He will be arraigned later.

Simpson reportedly was arrested Tuesday at his home at 54080 Walla Walla River Road where he and his wife ran a state-licensed child-care facility.

Gushwa said this morning the crimes allegedly occurred between January and July 31 of this year, but declined to provide further information.

If convicted, Simpson would face several years in prison.

Bail was set at $250,000.
