The Gems, a Pacific Northwest band in the 1960s, will be featured at the family dances during the 2009 Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days.

The dances begin right after the rodeo at 10 p.m. Sept. 4 and 5, under the grandstands. They are free with paid fair admission.

Band members Paul Wheeler, Ron Overman, Jim Reid, Larry Loney and Duane Gusse grew up in the Walla Walla area. They will play oldies-but-goodies rock.

The band was a local favorite playing for sock hops at Walla Walla High School, the Natatorium and during the fair. The band opened for national acts including Jerry Lee Lewis, the Ventures, Jan & Dean, Bobby Bare and others. AmericanWest Bank is sponsoring the event.
