Walla Walla School Board shifts Borleske alcohol policy

The eased restrictions are part of a push to bring a semipro team to the city. The School District shares ownership of the stadium.

WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla School Board did its part Tuesday night to help baseball fans enjoy a beer while taking in a game at Borleske Stadium.

In a unanimous vote as part of its consent agenda, the board agreed to revise policies on the consumption and serving of alcohol at Borleske stadium, which the School District partially owns.

Board members learned a semipro baseball team has approached Borleske Stadium Association Secretary Peter Harvey with the goal of bringing a team to Walla Walla, and hosting its games at Borleske. But a requirement of the group was to be able to sell beer at the games.

Board policies are in place mainly to prohibit the use of alcohol by staff on district property. But a specific policy regarding alcohol at non-district events at Borleske was not in place.

The revision will allow alcohol to be served and sold at Borleske as long as the events are not district functions. The board also agreed to revise its policy so district staff may consume alcohol at Borleske if it is legally sold and served during non-district events.
