Celebration Sunday to welcome new College Place park art

COLLEGE PLACE -- A celebration is planned Sunday to welcome a new city resident.

The event at Lions Park is intended to introduce people to "Double Swirl," a 13-foot-tall sculpture by Seattle artist Andrew Carson.

The gathering will begin at 2:30 p.m., said Matt Eppelsheimer, one of the members of the 2008 Sherwood Leadership Group, which donated the work to the city.

The brass, copper and glass sculpture is designed so that different levels rotate independently in the breeze. The City Council voted to accept the sculpture in April.
