Public meetings set on wind project


Public meetings on the draft environmental impact statement for the Lower Snake River Wind Energy Project will be held Sept. 9 and Sept. 10. The open houses are an opportunity to ask questions and submit written comments.

The applicant, Puget Sound Energy, Inc., proposes to construct and operate approximately 795 wind turbines that would generate approximately 1,432 megawatts from wind power in Garfield and Columbia counties. The project would occupy approximately 124,000 acres.

The meeting Sept. 9 is from 6-10 p.m. at the Pomeroy High School. The Sept. 10 meeting is from 6-10 p.m. at the Seneca Building in Dayton.

In Pomeroy, paper copies are available for review at the county Public Works Department office, 19th and Arlington; Garfield County Library, 856 Arlington; auditor’s office, and offices of the county commissioners, both in the courthouse.

In Dayton, paper copies are available at the Columbia County Planning Department, 11 S. Second St., and the Columbia County Library, 111 S. Third St.

A hard copy of the DEIS is available for $5 at the Garfield County Public Works Department or the Columbia County Planning Department. CD copies are free at either office.

Public comment on the draft EIS must be received before 5 p.m. on Sept. 15. There will be an opportunity at the open house public meetings to submit written comments.
