MILTON-FREEWATER — Lucille M. Nelson, 95, of 113 S.E. Fifth St. died Dec. 4, 2009, at the home.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main Street.

Private burial will follow in Milton-Freewater Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice through the funeral home.

Mrs. Nelson was born May 10, 1914, to Fred and Clara (Leitzke) George in Donnybrook, N.D.

The family moved to Minot, N.D., and operated a dairy farm.

She attended school in Minot and graduated from Minot State College, where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught at various rural schools.

She married Clarence Nelson in Douglas, N.D., in 1936 and wherever he farmed she taught school.

In 1946 the couple moved to Milton-Freewater, where her husband built several homes and drove truck.

She taught at Grove Elementary School for 35 years, retiring in 1981.

Her husband died in 1970.

Survivors include a son, Clifford Nelson of Lebec, Calif.; a sister, Flora George of Milton-Freewater; a brother, Bob George of Pleasant Hill, Ore.; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
