WALLA WALLA -- A man pleaded innocent Monday to raping a woman at her Walla Walla apartment in March.

Kyle S. Bushman, 30, of Pullman, is set for trial in January in Walla Walla County Superior Court on the charge of second-degree rape.

The woman reported to police that she was awakened by a knock on her front door about 7 a.m. March 29. She reportedly didn't know the man who knocked, but allowed him to enter her apartment after he asked if he could come in for a few minutes.

While there, the man allegedly raped the woman. She alerted a neighbor who saw the suspect before he left the area and recognized him as Bushman, according to a police report filed in court.

Bushman wasn't found immediately, but the charge was filed April 10 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He later was apprehended in Latah County, Idaho, on an unrelated matter, then transported to the Walla Walla County Jail Nov. 24 to face the local rape charge. Bail has been set at $50,000.
