UMATILLA — Weston-McEwen had three looks at the buzzer but nothing would drop and the TigerScots came up short here in boys non-conference basketball action Tuesday.

Umatilla hung on for the 46-45 win.

"We went up six with three minutes to play," W-M coach Brian Pickard said. "We forced it when we didn’t need to — took a bad shot and had two turnovers — and they tied it. We had a great look and got the rebounds for two more chances, but couldn’t get it to go (at the end)."

The TigerScots jumped to a 17-12 lead after one quarter only to see the Vikings roar back to take a 27-26 lead at the half.

Umatilla expanded that lead to as much as 11 in the third before the TigerScots answered to regain the lead and build the six-point cushion with three minutes left.

Miles Thul led W-M with 21 points. Francisco Campos led the Vikings with 12.

Dallas Reich added 12 points to the TigerScot attack and Owen Hegdal grabbed a team-leading 12 rebounds.

W-M drops to 1-2 and enters the three-day Columbia River Tournament at Umatilla Thursday.
