ELLENSBURG — Three Walla Walla University players scored in double figures, but the Wolves fell to Central Washington University, 100-73, in a non-conference mens’ basketball game here Wednesday night.

Gerard Dauphin led the Wolves with 17 points. Ryan Spady and Jonny Long added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The loss leaves the Wolves with a 4-11 record, and CWU improved to 3-3.

The Wildcats’ J.C. Cook led all scorers with 27 points.

The Wildcats led by eight points, 46-38, at the intermission. Early in the final 20 minutes CWU went on a 16-0 run and pulled away in the second half.

"We cut their lead to five late in the second half, and they came back and went up by eight," WWU coach Gerry Larson said.

"Then we stayed with them early in the second half before we had some turnovers and missed shots. Then they went on the 16-0 push," he continued. "We shot only 33 percent in the second half, and they shot about 60 percent. They outrebounded us, but we had as many shots as they did in the second half.

"We can’t let teams shoot the way they did and win," he added. "Our defensive effort was less effective than we need it to be."

The Wolves host Lewis Clark State College at 7 p.m. Saturday.
