Saturday will be jumping at the Blue Mountain Humane Society.

The day begins with the third annual "Home for the Holidays" adoption event, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the animal shelter at 7 E. George St.

During those hours, adoption prices are slashed to $10 for cats over 6 months, $30 for kittens, $75 for dogs and $120 for small dogs and puppies.

Adoptive families have the option of adding another pet of equal or lesser value at no additional charge.

All adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, micro chipped and current on vaccinations. In addition each cat and dog comes with a free vet check at the clinic of the adopter's choice and 30 days of free veterinary insurance.

At noon there will be a dedication ceremony to celebrate the completion of four new dog runs, built in a revamping of the pounds outdoor play area for dogs.

The project began in April, nearly stumbling for a lack of funding and ability to complete the job, noted Crissy Kinney, project coordinator.

Several community members with expertise in contracting, landscape and excavation work joined the effort as volunteers, setting things in motion again.

A grant from Clara and Art Bald allowed completion of the new runs, with money left over to construct an outdoor cat play area in the coming year, Director Sara Archer said.

Donors wishing to sponsor pet adoptions may call 509-529-5188 or visit www.bluemountainhumane.org, where there is also a listing and images of animals at the shelter.
