PENDLETON -- Former Weston resident David L. Peterson, 64, died Dec. 5, 2009, at Oregon Health Science University in Portland.
At his request, no services will be held. Arrangements are through Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main St., Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Mountain Humane Society through the funeral home.
Mr. Peterson was born April 18, 1945, at the Umatilla Army Depot to Virgil D. and Eileen A. Cummings Peterson. He grew up in Weston and after his schooling he begin working as a self-employed contractor. He built many homes in the Milton-Freewater area and other locations.
He enjoyed spending time in the mountains and was a big game outfitter in Idaho, Montana and British Columbia, Canada, and a steelhead outfitter on the Clearwater River at Orofino, Idaho. He spent a quarter of his life in a tent in the mountain.
Mr. Peterson had a compassion for animals and always had a truck full of dogs. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Idaho Outfitters Association.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl, at the home; three daughters, Rhonda Echevarria of Milton-Freewater, Shanna Peterson of Vancouver, Wash., and Paige Nayes of Santa Clara, Calif.; a son, Cam Peterson of Stanwood, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Amy Stillman of Lexington, Ore.; two brothers, Terry and Lorne Peterson, both of Weston; two sisters, Kathleen and Virginia Peterson; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
