COLLEGE PLACE — After trailing by three points at halftime, 39-36, Walla Walla University eventually lost an 89-74 men’s basketball game to Lewis-Clark State here on Saturday.

The loss leaves the Wolves with a 2-11 record on the season.

The Wolves suffered a four-minute scoreless period early in the second half and LCSC went up by 11.

The Wolves, however, drew within four points again with seven minutes to play.

"When we tried to put more pressure on them, we had some breakdowns and they got some easy transition baskets," WWU coach Gerry Larson said. "Our backside rotation was weak, and their size took over. Yet, it was a closer game than the final score indicates.

"We shot well in the first half, and they didn’t," he added. "It’s becoming a pattern. We outshoot our opponents in the first half, and they outshoot us in the second half."

The Wolves’ Jonny Long finished with a game-high 26 points and five assists.

Tristan Greenidge had three 3-pointers and 13 points.

Tristan Edwards and Gerard Dauphin each contributed 11 points. Edwards also had a team-leading nine rebounds.

Tanner McIntosh led LCSC with 25 points.

The Wolves next play on Monday night against NCAA Division III opponent UC Santa Cruz at 7 p.m.
