Pair accused of using stolen credit card to rent home

WALLA WALLA -- A man and woman arrested last week suspected of using a stolen credit card to rent a home may have written forged and counterfeit checks to local businesses, authorities said.

The Walla Walla Police Department arrested Melissa N. Sherrill, 33, and Steven C. Gill, 26, as well as a 20-year-old woman, after receiving a tip from a local property owner that the couple had rented a vacation house using a stolen credit card.

They were arrested at the home in the 300 block of Juniper Street on Thursday.

On investigation, Sherrill and Gill were found to be wanted by Montana law enforcement, according to a news release. Sherrill, who reportedly goes by several aliases, was also wanted in Washington, including by local police, for identity theft, forgery and failing to reports to her community corrections officer with the Department of Corrections.
