POMEROY — Lacrosse-Washtucna pulled ahead of Pomeroy in the second and third quarters en route to a 43-35 victory in a girls Southeast B North Division basketball game here Saturday.

The loss leaves the Pirates with an 0-2 league record and a 2-2 overall record.

The Tigercats outpointed the Pirates 19-10 in the middle two periods.

HayLee Koller and Karlie Martin led the Pirates with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Melissa Bartlow grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
L-W’s Kristin Stubbs led all scorers with 17 points, and Gladys Martinez chipped in 15 for the Tigercats. Della Fleming snared a game-high 13 rebounds.

"I had hoped the girls would be fired up and play well," Pomeroy coach Nettie Severs said. "We did not. We set some goals prior to the game: limiting turnovers, better defensive rebounding, running the floor hard.

"We did not accomplish those goals tonight," Severs said. "We really struggled with their zone. We did not move without the ball well and didn’t get many good looks at the basket.

"L-W played hard and outhustled us to most loose balls and rebounding opportunities," she said. "We’ve got a lot of work to do in order to get ready for Colton on Friday."
