COLLEGE PLACE -- A 12-year-old Milton-Freewater girl who is believed to have run away from home three weeks ago was found safely Wednesday, authorities said.

The College Place Police Department, working with the Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office and Walla Walla Police Department, served a search warrant at a home in the afternoon and found Miranda Nye.

Miranda went missing Nov. 25 after apparently packing a bag and leaving her house on her bicycle early in the morning. She was last seen near her home along Crisp Lane near Ferndale Road outside Milton-Freewater.

Umatilla County Sheriff's Detective Rhiana Sheridan said her agency is investigating the case, including what may have prompted Miranda to run away.

Sheridan said Miranda spent the past three weeks staying with family or friends who offered her shelter because they felt it was in her best interest. Miranda's whereabouts remained hidden to authorities until Wednesday.

Acting on a tip, the Walla Walla County Child Abduction Response Team, or CART, mobilized in College Place, where she was found hiding in the apartment of a family friend.

Sheridan said Miranda is currently in a safe location while the investigation continues.
