Bill and Marlene Saager


Bill and Marlene Saager of 125 Saager St., Milton-Freewater, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a Nov. 14, 2009, reception at their home. The celebration was hosted by their children. They also celebrated with a trip to Branson, Mo.
The couple met on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. They were married Nov. 14, 1959, at Christ Lutheran Church in Walla Walla. Marlene’s maiden name is Benzel.
Bill Saager was an electrician for Coe Electric in Milton-Freewater for 12 years. He was employed by the city of Milton-Freewater in the Light and Power Department for 28 years, retiring in 1997. He has been a member of the Milton-Freewater Fire Department for 50 years. He is also a cherry grower. He enjoys church activities, traveling, time with family and hunting.
Marlene Saager was employed by the Milton-Freewater School District as a teacher’s assistant for 13 years. She retired in 1996. She enjoys woodcarving and crocheting.
Mr. and Mrs. Saager are members of the First Community Church. They enjoy cowboy action shooting competition.
They have a daughter, Terry Saager of Walla Walla; two sons, David Saager of Milton-Freewater and Matt Saager of Newberg, Ore.; and five grandchildren.
