MORO, Oro. — Nixyaawii overcame a slow start here Friday to down Sherman County, 52-42, in Big Sky League girls basketball action.

The Golden Eagles were down 12-2 after one quarter, but outscored the Huskies 50-30 over the next three quarters to win by 10.

"They pressed us in the first quarter," said Nixyaawii coach Jeremy Maddern. "Probably the majority of our 25 turnovers came in the first quarter, and led to easy buckets for them and not scoring much for us.

"We took control in the second quarter, dominated the boards in the fourth quarter and made our shots at the free-throw line."

The Golden Eagles’ balanced scoring attack was led by Suzette White Owl and Kenisha Perry, who each scored 12 points. Courtney Edgmand contributed another 10, while Chelsey Minthorn and Mariah Withers added eight apiece.

Shelby Von Borstel led Sherman County with 14.

The victory boosts Nixyaawii to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in conference.
