ATHENA — The TigerScot defense forced 31 turnovers and had 21 steals en route to a 67-33 league win over the Union Bobcats here Friday night.

Weston-McEwen deployed a man-to-man, full-court press and then a zone press later in the game.

Miles Thul led the team with five steals and had six assists to go along with four points.

Also on the defensive side of the ball, Owen Hegdal held standout Union big man Austin Woodward to just eight points in the game.

Coach Brian Pickard praised the efforts of Hegdal.

"Owen is strong, quick and guards the best scorer every night for us," Pickard said.

Having the best game overall for Weston-McEwen was Dallas Reich, who scored 24 points and had 14 rebounds.

"Reich had a good game," Pickard said. "We need Dallas to have a double-double for us most every night for us to be successful."

In addition to defense, Pickard continues to stress rebounding as W-M outrebounded the bigger team in Union by a margin of 34-25.

The TigerScots are now 1-0 in league play and 3-4 overall.

The TigerScots played again Saturday night at Enterprise.
