Koberstein, Ruark pace Pirate boys past Tekoa-Oakesdale

POMEROY — Trevor Koberstein and Justin Ruark scored big as the Pomeroy Pirate boys basketball team edged Tekoa-Oakesdale, 53- 51, here Saturday night.

Koberstein tallied 14 points and Ruark finished with 19 points in the victory.

"It was an evenly matched game in most aspects ," Pirates coach Brian Koller said. "The difference was that we shot the ball a little better than they did overall."

Trips to the free throw line was almost identical and shooting percentage from the field was about the same.

Ryan Koberstein ripped down a team-leading seven rebounds for the Pirates.

Trevor Koberstein had a team-high four steals and was praised by Koller "for hitting some key free throws towards the end."

Ruark was also mentioned by the coach for his free throws at the end of the game.

The Pirates erased a five-point deficit with two minutes left, with free throws and good defense at the other end to win.
