Mac-Hi grapples to tournament victory


MILTON-FREEWATER — Mac-Hi rolled to a convincing victory at their eight-team tournament in the Pioneer gym on Saturday, and Wa-Hi notched a second-place finish at the event.

The top-five team scores were Mac-Hi 289, Wa-Hi 190.5, Chiawana 188.5, Riverside 123, and the Mac-Hi junior varsity 93.

Irrigon, Heppner and Columbia of White Salmon also competed in the event.

Mac-Hi had 29 wrestlers competing in the event, with 16 earning places, including: 119 — Eric Rayo, second place; 119 — Mike Rogers, first place; 119 — Jordan Leinbach, fourth place; 125 — Jesse Sargent, first place; 125_Travis Hodgen, fourth place; 130 — Kyle Ledford, third place; 135 — Patrick Sheets, first place; 140 — Joey Paez, first place; 140 — Shelby West, third place; 152 — Wyatt Law, first place; 160 — Josh Rutherford, first place; 160 — Jeremiah Field, fourth place; 171 — Francis Saldana, fourth place; 189 — Brandon Kralman, second place; 215 — Lawrence Timmons, first place; 285 — Angel Palacios, first place.

"From the first match to the last, we kind of dominated," Mac-Hi coach Beau Chester said. "This was a good match for out kids."

Mac-Hi travels to Pendleton on Dec. 30 to compete in a 10-team event, with a 9 a.m. start.
