ROSEBURG, Ore. — A pair of all-tournament selections, Kati Isham and Nancy Johnson, led undefeated Walla Walla Community College to a women’s NWAACC crossover tournament title here Sunday.

The 10-0 Warriors went 3-0 in the tourney, knocking off the host team Umpqua on its home court, 83-77, in the title game.

Isham, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player selection, led the Warriors with 30 points, and Johnson, a first-team all-tournament selection, scored 17 points.

Kayla Hutcheson chipped in 10 points for the Warriors.

Johnson and Hutcheson grabbed team-high rebounding honors with six boards apiece.

"Kati and Nancy had good performances," WWCC coach Bobbi Hazeltine said. "We had a lot of good performances, and we played well as a team."

The Riverhawks led 4-0 early, but the Warriors led 35-33 at the half.

"It was a close game," Hazeltine said. "We led most of the way, but not by much.

"We went up by nine points late in the game, but they hit a couple of 3s, and they had to send us to the line as time ran down," Hazeltine added.

The Warriors, who shot 48 percent from the floor for the game (52-of-48), shot 85 percent from the free-throw line (30-for-35).

Anamaka Anyanwu led the Riverhawks with a game-high 32 points, and Mykiea Russell added 11 points.

"She’s a post player, but they rely on a full-court press for the full 40 minutes," Hazeltine said. "We had not seen that kind of pressure before, but we handled it well."

Umpqua’s Jameia McDuffie bagged a game-high 10 rebounds, which helped the Riverhawks to a 36-35 edge on the boards.

"Umpqua is one of the better teams in the NWAACC, and it was a good game for us to beat them on their home court," Hazeltine said. "Anytime you win a tournament like this, especially a crossover tournament, it’s a big deal.

"Now we’re going into the break, and we’ll take some time off," she said. "We travel to Portland for one more non-conference game (3 p.m. on Jan. 2) before the NWAACC season."

Walla Walla opens NWAACC action against Columbia Basin at the Dietrich Dome on Jan. 9 at 4 p.m.
