Christmas Holiday closures


The Christmas holiday is Friday. The following closures or special hours or days of service will be in effect.

  • OFFICE BUILDINGS: All federal, state, county and city offices will be closed Friday. Walla Walla County offices will close at 3 p.m. Thursday. Columbia County offices will be open regular hours Thursday. City of Walla Walla offices will be open regular hours Thursday. City of College Place offices will close at noon Thurday and also be closed Monday. Milton-Freewater city offices will be closed Thursday and Monday.
  • POST OFFICES: Post offices will be closed and the only service will be express delivery.
  • BANKS: All banks will be closed.
  • SCHOOLS: Schools are closed through Jan. 4.
  • LIQUOR STORES: Washington and Oregon liquor stores will be closed.
  • DEPT. OF LICENSING: The Department of Licensing office on Jade Street in Walla Walla will be closed Friday. It will reopen Saturday.
  • TRANSPORTATION: Valley Transit and Dial-A-Ride buses will not operate Friday. Job Access will operate only for scheduled appointments. Buses will resume normal schedules on Saturday.
  • DAM CROSSINGS: Crossings on Lower Granite, Little Goose and Lower Monumental dams will be closed Friday.
  • LIBRARIES: The Walla Walla Public Library will be open Thursday until 5 p.m. and will be closed Friday and Saturday. The Milton-Freewater Public Library will be closed Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
  • GARBAGE: The city of Walla Walla will not collect Friday or Saturday. Trash from both days will be picked up on Monday. Basin Disposal will not collect on Christmas Day, but will collect on Saturday. Customers need to have containers out by the night before or early Saturday. Milton-Freewater customers who are scheduled for Thursday pickup will have their trash collected Wednesday. People scheduled for Friday pickups will have trash collected on Monday.
  • NEWSPAPER DELIVERY: The Union-Bulletin will not publish on Christmas Day. News, advertising and circulation offices will be closed. Publication will resume Sunday. People should receive their Sunday paper by 7 a.m. Those who don't should call the U-B circulation office, 525-3300, by 6 p.m.
