DAYTON — Jessica Tate’s mid-court basket to conclude the first half boosted Dayton to a 24-20 halftime lead and the Bulldogs took charge after the intermission to earn their first girls basketball win of the season here Tuesday night.

Dayton outscored Odessa 24-9 in the second half to register a 47-29 victory. The Bulldogs, now 1-5 on the year, will try to put a happy face on the 2009 portion of their season tonight when they face Kiona-Benton in the championship game of the Bulldogs’ post-Christmas tournament.

Kiona-Benton was a 50-43 double-overtime winner over Lacrosse-Washtucna in Tuesday’s other first-round girls game.

Maria Davidson’s seven points led Odessa.

"We’re still not shooting well," Dayton coach Scott Hudson said of his team’s 15-for-63 effort from the field. "But we’re starting to get the shots."
