STANFIELD — Andrea Roeder, limited to four points in Monday’s 34-31 home-court loss to Riverside, exploded for 28 points here Tuesday as Mac-Hi rolled past Stanfield 65-29 to snap a five-game losing streak.
Roeder sank 10 field goals, including four from beyond the 3-point arc, and swished all four of her free-throw attempts in establishing a new career high.
Sierra Burchell also enjoyed a career night with 23 points as she and Roeder combined for 51 of the Pioneers’ 65 points. Belen Betencourt was a third Pioneer in double figures with 10 points.
Cora Valadez led a balanced but not-so-productive Tigers offense with seven points. Eight other Stanfield players contributed between one and five points in the lopsided defeat.
Mac-Hi is now 5-7 on the year and won’t play again until next Tuesday when they entertain Umatilla in a non-league game. Mac-Hi entertains La Grande the following Friday in its Greater Oregon League opener.
"This is a good way to go into the new year," Mac-Hi coach Curtis Pumphrey said. "It’s sure a lot better than a three-point loss."
