Dayton boys savor first basketball win of season

DAYTON — Garett Turner scored 18 points here Wednesday as Dayton’s boys basketball team seized its first victory of the season in the consolation round of a two-day, four-team tournament.

The Bulldogs defeated Kiona-Benton 44-40 by controlling the backboards in the second half. Dayton trailed 22-17 at the intermission but outscored the Bears 27-16 after the break.

"It feels really good," Dayton coach Roy Ramirez said. "I’m really happy for the boys. They’ve been playing hard and working hard in practice."

Hayden Wing led Ki-Be with 13 points.

Dayton takes a 1-6 overall record, 0-2 in the Southeast B District’s Southern Division, into a Tuesday night home game against Walla Walla Valley Academy.
