Ki-Be girls top Dayton in tourney title game

DAYTON — Twenty-four hours after registering its first victory of the season, the Dayton girls basketball team suffered a 52-41 loss to Kiona-Benton here Wednesday in the championship game of the Dayton tournament.

The Bulldogs, 1-6, return to Southeast B District Eastern Division play Tuesday when they entertain Walla Walla Valley Academy. Dayton also has a pair of home games on the weekend, entertaining division rival Liberty Christian Friday and matching up with Asotin in a cross-division game on Saturday.

Jessica Small scored 13 points and collected 14 rebounds to pace the Bears Wednesday. Bailey Schrotter added 10 points.

Dayton got 14 points and seven rebounds from Kayla Dedloff.

"We made way too many turnovers (26), but otherwise we are getting better every game at certain parts of our game," Dayton coach Scott Hudson said. "We shot better in this game. We’ve been around 28 percent for the season but shot around 40 percent (21-for-51) on Wednesday."
