WALLA WALLA -- A Walla Walla woman reports being attacked, and almost raped, while walking in Pioneer Park during the night.
The attack was reported to city police as occurring between 10-11 p.m. Wednesday as the 31-year-old woman walked alone near the park's pond.
She told police an unknown man came up behind her and knocked her to the ground. She was kicked and struck several times, and told to stay down, until a vehicle drove by that scared the assailant away, according to the report.
The woman was treated at Providence St. Mary Medical Center for injuries consistent with the attack that she described.
She said the suspect may be a white man, heavy set and close to 5 feet, 10 inches tall, who was wearing dark clothing and a hooded sweatshirt closed tight to conceal his face.
Police would like anyone who may have information on the attack or who may have seen something that night to call 527-1960, or 527-4434 and ask for detectives.
