Poets Matt Zapruder and Joshua Beckman, co-editors of Wave Books, a Seattle-based poetry press, will read at 7 tonight in the Black Box Theater of Walla Walla University, corner of Southwest Fourth Street and Southwest Davis Avenue.
Zapruder, from San Francisco and New York, is an award-winning poet, musician, translator and professor at University of California-Riverside's creative writing school. He has been featured in The Boston Globe and The New Yorker, and the title poem of his second book, "The Pajamaist," was recently translated into German and made into a graphic novel. Zapruder is also a guitarist for The Figments and a songwriter on his own, recording folk-pop ballads.
Fellow Wave Books editor Beckman will accompany Zapruder. Beckman is the author of six books of poetry, including, "Things Are Happening," which won the APR/Honickman First Book Prize in 1998 and "Poker," a translation of Toma=æ =*alamun, which was a finalist for the PEN Poetry in Translation Award. In 2006, Beckman organized the Poetry Bus Tour, which visited 50 U.S. cities in 50 days to conduct poetry readings of contemporary poets.
