Helix nets second at state Class 1A tourney


FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Coach Tammie Parker and the Helix Grizzly volleyball team finished second in Oregon Class 1A state playoffs for the third time in the past four years at Pacific University here Saturday.

The Grizzlies beat St. Paul and Hosanna Christian in two matches Friday to advance to the championship game Saturday evening against Imbler.

Helix beat St. Paul 25-16, 25-18, 18-25 and 25-17.

"We started out slow against St. Paul," Parker said. "But then we got the jitters out and got to playing well."

The Grizzlies won against Hosanna by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 25-23 and 25-22.

"Hosanna was a real good team," Parker said. "We battled them and our offense ran real well."

Helix lost in the championship game to Imbler by scores of 25-9, 25-16 and 25-15.

After the title tilt, Parker said that she was "really, really proud of the whole team."

Earning all-tournament first-team honors was Chyanne Hack, a junior, who was also the player of the game for the championship match.

All-tournament second-team honorees were seniors Addy Terjeson, Megan Schroeder and Kylie Rodgers.
