Walla Walla man pleads guilty in sex crimes

Jeffrey Aaron Bruton faces 26-34 months behind bars in connection with crimes against a teenage girl.

WALLA WALLA -- A local man pleaded guilty Friday in Superior Court to committing two sex crimes against a 16-year-old girl last year.

Trial for Jeffrey Aaron Bruton, 35, of 1600 Gray Lynn Drive, had been scheduled for next week. He faced four charges, but the prosecution agreed to reduce the case against him in exchange for his guilty pleas.

Bruton admitted committing the two crimes between March 1 and Aug. 27 of last year.

He faces a standard-range prison term of 26-34 months when he's sentenced later. But in a plea agreement, the prosecution is recommending Bruton be ordered to serve six months in the County Jail if he is determined eligible for a sexual offender sentencing alternative.

The recommendation includes he be allowed to serve the time in partial confinement for work release if he's employed.

He also would be required to undergo sex offender treatment during 36-48 months of community custody, a form of probation, when he's released.

Bruton will be evaluated to determine if he is eligible for the sentencing alternative. Sentencing could occur in about a month.

Bruton had been free awaiting his trial until Sept. 18 when he was arrested for violating terms of his pretrial release.
