E Street Driving School gears up for new classes

E Street Driving School is gearing up for a Sunday-only class beginning this weekend.

The Southgate driving school, 915 S. Second Ave., meets 6:30-8:30 p.m. starting Sunday. The session is ideal for students involved in winter sports, said Brian Luxton, owner of the drivers training operation.

E Street is also beginning a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday class that starts Dec 1 and runs through Jan. 14. Those sessions are 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Luxton said the December classes are an excellent opportunity for drivers to learn how to deal with adverse weather conditions. He said the lessons also make a nice Christmas gift. The business will price match and take payments to help parents afford the training for their kids.

Lady Luck will be on the side of Providence St. Mary Medical Center during the second annual poker tournament and auction at the Blue Mountain Casino, 2025 Isaacs Ave

The Isaacs Avenue casino, restaurant and lounge will donate proceeds from its Dec. 13 event to the hospital's Special Needs Fund for cancer patients. The fund provides financial assistance for transportation, medication, housing, nutrition assistance and other expenses associated with treatment.

Funds will be raised three ways: The $50 entry fee for players to join will be donated to the cause as will proceeds from the sale of live auction items and a silent auction.

Last year's inaugural event raised more than $5,000 for the hospital. "We have a strong desire to take a more active role in helping to positively impact our community and its members here in the Walla Walla Valley," said Thomas Orosco, who works at the Blue and is serving as fundraiser consultant.

The Blue is taking signups for the tournament. Participants will receive an Italian dinner buffet. Donations for auction items are also being accepted. The tournament begins at 4 p.m. Dec. 13. The silent auction runs 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the live auction is 6 p.m. For more details call 529-3950.
