Walla Walla man dies after fall into creek

The circumstances around Allen Hadler's death remains under investigation by police.

WALLA WALLA -- A local man died Tuesday at a Spokane hospital after apparently tumbling into Mill Creek in downtown Walla Walla earlier this month.

Allen Hadler, 44, who died at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, was found in the Mill Creek channel near Palouse and Main streets, at the site of bridge construction, about 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 6, said city police Detective Sgt. Matt Wood.

Hadler had suffered head injuries as well as bruises and scrapes. He was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Sacred Heart.

Wood said his department was investigating whether the fall was accidental, or whether an assault occurred. The initial reports came from people who heard someone in distress, possibly in the channel. Emergency crews found Hadler in the channel, but were unable to learn from him how he had ended up there, Wood said.

"If anybody did witness it, we'd like to hear from them," Wood said.

Wood said anyone with information should contact the police at 527-4434.
