COLLEGE PLACE -- Mildred Lucille McLees, 70, died Oct. 7, 2009, at her home here.
A celebration of her life will be held in Kalispell, Mont., in the summer of 2010. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt Cremations & Funeral Services, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
Mrs. McLees was born Dec. 9, 1938, in Three Forks, Mont., to Marion James and Opal Olive Stevens McLees. She graduated from Walla Walla High School and attended Victor's Beauty School in Walla Walla. She then graduated from Madios Beauty School in Montana.
On Sept. 19, 1958, she and Stanley Dean Smith married in Three Forks. They later divorced. She married William Keegan and they divorced as well. She worked in various careers including cosmetology, retail sales, banking and for the Montana State Patrol. Returning to the Walla Walla area more than 20 years ago, she retired in 2002.
A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, she had a wonderful sense of humor and a tender heart. She enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and family reunions. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines and Eastern Star and Rainbows.
She is survived by two daughters, Shelley Dawn McLendon of College Place and Lorna Diane Smith of Kalispell; a son, Jeffrey Dean Smith of Kalispell; her mother of Issaquah, Wash.; her former husband, Dean Smith of Heron, Mont.; three sisters, Roberta A. Nelson of Central Point, Ore., Gloria J. Peters of Issaquah, and Sandra C. McLees of Sea Tac, Wash.; a brother, Ira Gene Crowe of Willow Creek, Mont.; 11 grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and a granddaughter, Allison McLendon.
