LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Whitman’s Tate Head, a first-year golfer, played holes No. 8 through No. 13 in 1-under par and then held on down the stretch here Monday afternoon to share medalist honors at the women’s Northwest Conference Northern Colleges Tournament at the Oakbrook Golf Club.
With a 91 on Monday, Head finished the two-day tournament with a 36-hole score of 171, tied for the top spot with Whitworth’s Emily Travis.
Caitlin Holland, another of Whitman’s first-year players, carded a 95 in the closing round to finish at 177, good enough for a fifth-place tie.
Junior Sydney Saito followed her opening round 91 with a 93 on Monday for a 184 total. Sydney Conway, another first-year Missionary, closed with a 91 in round two for a 185 total.
Senior Kelsi Evans cut 10 strokes off her Sunday score, shooting 98 on Monday to finish at 206. Sophomore Allison Lodine wrapped up the tournament with a 207 total.
In the team scoring, Whitman started the second round in second place, just four strokes back of Whitworth.
But with their top four unable to match their low scores from Monday, the Missionaries slipped into third place in the final team scoring with a 717, two strokes back of Puget Sound.
Whitworth was first with a 696 total. Pacific Lutheran was fourth with a 768.
