WALLA WALLA — Erica Burmood stroked to a pair of first-place finishes at a Big Nine Conference double-dual swim meet Thursday against Hanford and Richland at Paul Harvey Pool on the Whitman College campus.
In the team competition, Wa-Hi lost to Hanford 105-65 and to Richland 92-78.
Burmood won the 200-yard individual medley with a swim of 2 minutes, 15.09 seconds. She won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:005.
Wa-Hi’s Jessica Hutton placed first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.15.
Hutton also placed second in the 100 freestyle.
Wa-Hi’s Tabitha Jones placed second in 200 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle.
Wa-Hi’s Tori Jones placed third in the 100 backstroke.
Wa-Hi other top-10 finishers on the day included Tori Jones (fourth, 100 butterfly), Abby Crowley (fourth, 100 backstroke; fifth, 100 freestyle), Sarah Fuller (fourth, 100 breaststroke), Aislynn Beckstrand (sixth, 100 breaststroke; seventh, 200 individual medley), Bailey Ruff (seventh, 50 freestyle), Megan Evans (500 freestyls), Anna Reid (eighth, 200 freestyle; eighth, 100 backstroke), Kristin Campbell (ninth, 50 freestyle; ninth 100 freestyle), Dana Wardell (ninth, 100 butterfly), Cheyenne Schoen (ninth, 500 freestyle), Julia Andrade (nonth, 100 breaststroke).
Wa-Hi’s 200 freestyle relay earned a second place with Hutton, Ta. Jones, To. Jones and Burmood.
In the 400 freestyle relay Wa-Hi placed second (Hutton, Ta. Jones, To. Jones and Burmood) and placed fourth (Schoen, Ruff, Reid and Crowley)
In the 200 medley relay Wa-Hi placed fifth (Crowley, Sarah Fuller, Reid, Ruff) and placed sixth (Beckstrand, Maressa Trunkey, Schoen and Campbell.
"We kept it close with Richland, and I’m pleased with that," Wa-Hi coach Brad Daly said. "Richland and Hanford are a couple of the top teams in the conference, especially Hanford.
"And we had some nice swims," Daly continued. "Erica Burmood in the 200 individual medley was only .09 off of a state-qualifying time.
"Abby Crowley had a very good time in the 100 backstroke. Sarah Fuller had a personal best time by three seconds in the 100 breaststroke, and Tabitha Jones had a PR by two seconds and was very close to a state qualifying time in the 200 freestyle.
"So, we have some very good swims."
Wa-Hi will conduct team time trials on Oct. 24 and compete at the district meet in Ellensburg Oct. 30-31, with a 2:30 p.m. start on Oct. 30.
