COLLEGE PLACE -- Dogs with owners in tow will be hounding around Lions Park on Saturday, some in costumes, to celebrate the first ever Walla Walla Kennel Club Dog Fest.

"Really it's for educational purposes to show what you can do for your dog," said club board member Cathy Notturno, adding there will be agility, obedience and work course demonstrations.

The dog fest will offer a variety of events open to the public, including a mock dog show, dog costume contest, best trick contest and a Dachshund race.

"Any dog that looks like a wiener dog can participate...If there are not enough wiener dogs, I might have a Chihuahua race too. I'm easy," Notturno said, but noted club is only doing small-dog races because the course barriers are too low for larger breeds.

Dog must be on leashes, except when participating in a race, and expandable leashes are not allowed. Several vendors and dog information booths will be included.

Walla Walla Kennel Club Dog Fest hours are 10-3 p.m.
