WAITSBURG — Dayton dominated the middle of the net Monday, and the Bulldogs won the Southeast 2B South volleyball match with Waitsburg-Prescott in Dayton.
In Waitsburg Thursday, W-P won the battle in the middle and won the rematch in three games, 25-17, 25-21 and 30-28.
W-P’s leaders included Genesis Pearson with 13 kills, 12-for-13 serving and three aces; Ronnie Hulce with six kills; Megan Withers with five kills; Amanda Weis with 24 assists and eight digs; Angelina Paniagua with 11 digs and 11-for-11 serving; and Kyla Harris with eight digs and 13-for-15 serving with five aces.
It was an improvement over Monday," W-P coach Jessie Buehler said. "Our level of play is elevating, and things are starting to click for us.
"That third game was back-and-forth. It could have gone either way. We finished well, however, and that’s a good thing," Buehler said.
"I hope we’re peaking at the right time of the season." she added.
"We had some big leads that we let go of in games one and two," Dayton coach Shannon Turner said. "W-P hit the ball well all night. (Genesis) Pearson dominated on the net, which was the opposite of Monday night when Amanda (Melton) did. Our middle dominated on the net Monday, and last night their’s did. That was the difference in the match.
"We had our chances to win in the third game," she said. "We played scrappy. There were lots of long rallies between the two teams."
Nicole Lockard had 16 digs and 11 assists for Dayton, while Kayla Dedloff had eight kills and six digs, Kayla Turner had six kills and nine assists, and McKayla Bickelhaupt and Nicole Lambert each had 10 digs.
Melton was 15-for-16 serving with six aces.
Dayton, now 2-3 in SE 2B South play and 3-7 overall. The Bulldogs host DeSales Tuesday night.
