Warrior men's golf team fashions six-shot lead

Walla Walla CC's men's golf team shoots a 292 score Monday during the first round of the Central Washington University Invitational.

ROSLYN, Wash. — Jeff Neher shot a 3-under-par 69 here Monday to lead Walla Walla Community College’s men’s golf team to a first-round score of 292 and a six-shot lead halfway through the Central Washington Invitational at Suncadia Resort.


Neher’s nearest rival heading into today’s final round of play on the 72-hole layout nestled in the woods along the Cle Elum River was Skagit Valley’s Matt Hennick, who was one shot under par with a 71. Skagit Valley was second in the team scoring with a 298.


Other Warrior scores were Daniel Morgan 72, Kordd Thorton 73, Cory Spencer 78, Mike Noreen 79 and Max Levitch 87.


There were a total of nine teams and 55 men entered.


On the women’s side, Spokane was first in a field of five teams with a 250 tally, nine shots in front of Skagit Valley. Stephanie Schoof of Belleuve was the first-day medalist with an 80.


WWCC’s only entry in the women’s tourney was Jamie Robison, who carded a 109.
