ENERGY: Heard presentation on potential project that could secure a $500,000 grant toward energy efficiency improvements. The district would be responsible for about $750,000, and would also get $65,000 in cash back. The $1,315,000 would potentially go to replace heating, cooling and lighting in the academic building at Walla Walla High School. The board has until Dec. 3 to seek the grant.
SUPERINTENDENT: Hired Northwest Leadership Associates to conduct superintendent search. Unanimous.
HIRES: Approved hiring Zheng Wu as a temporary middle school paraeducator. Unanimous.
RETIRE: Accepted retirement submissions from Richard Carter as superintendent and Bill Jordan as deputy superintendent. Carter and Jordan will work through June 2010. Unanimous.
BILLS: Approved payment of October bills from general fund for $890,633.46; capital project for $945,688.35; and associated student body for $72,538.70. September payroll was $3,992,187.85 and October payroll estimated at $4.1 million. Unanimous.
