Poet to open college's visiting writer series Thursday

WALLA WALLA -- Poet Wayne Miller will open the Whitman College Visiting Writers Reading Series on Thursday.

Miller, whose newest collection is "The Book of Props," will read at 7 p.m. in Kimball Theatre, Hunter Conservatory, corner of Park Street and Boyer Avenue. The reading is free and open to the public.

Miller's works includes "Only the Senses Sleep," which received the William Rockhill Nelson Award. He teaches at the University of Central Missouri, where he edits "Pleiades: A Journal of New Writing."

Lydia Davis will be the next visiting writer Nov. 2 in Kimball Theatre. The series includes future presentations by Jeff Encke, Anthony Doer, Elizabeth Bradfield, and Sherman Alexie.
