ASOTIN — After falling behind 2-0, Pomeroy rallied to win what coach Rob Monahan called a "barn burner" in five games of Southeast B North volleyball action here on Thursday.
The Pirates scuttled the Panthers 21-25, 27-29, 25-15, 25-19 and 18-16 for the victory.
Pomeroy is now 9-6 in the North.
Pirate leaders included Kindsey Bott with eight kills and five blocks; Melissa Bartlow with 26 assists; Haylee Koller with 15 digs; Heather VanVogt with seven kills, four aces and six digs; and Sadie Slaybaugh with six kills, nine digs and 19-for-19 at the service line.
Leaders for Asotin included Megan Howell with four aces, 21 digs and 10 kills; Allie Sperry with 25 assists and four aces; and JaLisa Jose with 12 kills.
"Sydnie Gormsen and Hannah Winberg came off of the bench in games No. 4 and No. 5 and picked us up when some of our starters faltered," Monahan said.
Gormsen went five-for -seven serving under pressure, and Winberg had four kills and two blocks in that same span.
"We were flat in games one and two," Monahan said. "We made nine hitting errors in game one. For the night we had 32 kills and 29 hitting errors. It’s hard to win with numbers like that.
"Then, when we needed a lift Sydnie, came off the bench and served three straight to put some pressure on (Asotin)," Monahan said. "Hannah, also a backup who has played more junior varsity than varsity, had four kills. And she had one stuff block and one touch block on Howell, who is their best hitter.
"It was a heck of a match."
Pomeroy plays Tekoa-Oakesdale at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Oakesdale.
