LA GRANDE — Despite rain, snow and cold Mac-Hi booted past La Grande 5-0 in a Greater Oregon League soccer match here on Tuesday.

The win gives the Pioneers a 12-1-0 record with a final 2 p.m. GOL match Saturday at Milton-Freewater against Ontario.

Lupito Salazar put the Pioneers ahead for good with a first-half goal.

Johnny Trevino then scored two goals. Jose Herrera and Oscar Flores added one goal each.

Flores had two assists and Roberto Sandoval chipped in one assist.

"It was cold, with snow and rain, but the kids adapted well to the weather," Mac-Hi coach Jose Garcia said. "Midfilders Christian Carona and Jose Herrera did a great job. The defenders played well, and our strikers put a lot of pressure on them.

"The whole team played way better than it did last time," Garcia said. "We hope we can keep that up during the playoffs."
