Ike hands Blue Devils district volleyball loss

YAKIMA — Wa-Hi’s Jamie Weisner racked up three aces, six kills and three blocks but the Blue Devils fell in three games to Eisenhower in a Big Nine Conference Class 4A district volleyball match here Thursday.


The Cadet scores were 25-17, 25-19 and 25-23.


Wa-Hi’s other leaders were Courtney Zaro with nine kills and eight digs, Sydney Christensen with five kills and five blocks, Jill McDaniels with 17 assists and two blocks and Tianna Cummings with eight digs.


Other district winners on Thursday included Kamiakin over Wenatchee (25-20, 17-25, 25-19, 25-23), Richland over Kennewick (25-14, 25-18, 25-9) and Southridge over Eastmont (25-20, 25-15, 25-18).


The district tournament resumes on Saturday at Southridge and the Eastern Regionals take place next week in Spokane.


District Match 5 sends Wa-Hi against Kennewick in a loser-out match at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.


In Match 6, Wenatchee and Eastmont play another loser-out match at 11:30 a.m.


The 10 a.m. matches feature Match 7, Richland against Eisenhower and Match 8, Kamiakin against Southridge with the winners earning tickets to the regional tournament.


In Match 9, the winner of the Wa-Hi-Kennewick match plays the loser of the Kamiakin-Southridge match at 1 p.m. The loser is out, and the winner advances to the regional.


In Match 10, the winner of the Wenatchee-Eastmont match plays the loser of the Richland-Eisenhower match at 1 p.m. The loser drops out, and the winner advances to the regional.


Match 11 at 2:30 p.m. features the winners of Match 7 and Match 8, with the winner taking the No. 1 seed to the regional and the loser taking the No. 2 seed.


Match 12 at 2:30 p.m. features the losers of Match 9 and Match 10 with the loser out and the winner taking the No. 5 seed to the regional.


Match 14 at 4 p.m. features winner of Match 9 and Match 10 in a battle for the third and fourth seeds to the regional.


No league passes will be accepted for the district tournament. Admission prices will be $6 for adults and $4 for students and seiors.
