Royal rolls past Burbank

The Knights score the game's final three TDs to pull away to a 54-15 victory in Burbank.

BURBANK — Royal scored the game’s final three touchdowns to turn a comfortable win into a runaway here Friday night.


Marc Albertson completed 11-of-21 passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns, and Jeremy Edwards had 121 yards rushing and a pair of TDs on 12 carries as the Knights throttled Burbank 54-15 to remain one game behind Connell in the final South Central Conference’s Eastern Division football standings. Royal improved to 4-1 in the division, 7-2 overall, while the Eagles, who flew past Warden 54-3 Friday night, finished 6-0 and 9-0.


Burbank dipped to 2-4 in the division and 3-6 overall. The Coyotes wrap up their season Friday at Highland in a cross division game.


Royal, as the No. 2 seed out of the East, will entertain Goldendale, No. 3 from the West, in the divisional playoffs, also Friday night. No. 1 seed Connell hosts Cle Elum, the Western Division’s No. 1 postseason qualifier.


Burbank scored one touchdown on a 22-yard run by Forrest Gordon and a second on an 8-yard pass from Dillon Rice to Jon McGreevey. The Coyotes’ initial score of the game was a 20-yard Jose Barajas field goal that drew the home team within 7-3 early in the second quarter. But Royal was on top 28-9 at halftime and 46-15 going into the final quarter.


Rice completed 10-of-20 passes for 133 yards for the Coyotes and Gordon had 132 yards rushing on 17 trips. McGreevey caught six passes for 91 yards.
