WALLA WALLA -- A man pleaded innocent Monday to carrying out five burglaries in the area, stealing guns from two locations and committing various other crimes.

Mathew B. Weise, 32, of 428 S.W. 12th St., is scheduled for trial beginning Oct. 15 in Walla Walla County Superior Court on 20 criminal counts, mostly charges stemming from alleged break-ins dating back to May.

In addition to the five burglary charges, Weise faces eight charges of theft -- including firearms, four counts of possessing guns as a convicted felon, one count of possessing burglary tools and two drug charges.

Weise was arrested Aug. 16 after Walla Walla County sheriff's deputies served a search warrant at his residence, which has a postal address of College Place, but actually is outside the city limits. "The search warrant was based off of identified stolen property that was visible from Southwest 12th Street," according to a law enforcement document filed in court.

Weise is suspected of burglarizing residences on Summit Place, the Old Milton Highway, Valley Street and Mojonnier Road. During the search of his residence, officials allegedly found stolen property, tools similar to those used in at least one of the burglaries and drug paraphernalia.

Two suspected marijuana plants in pots also were found on the property, officials said.

Bail for Weise was set at $150,000.
